И, набравшись сил,
Чуя смертный час,
Он товарищу
Отдавал наказ:

"Ты, товарищ мой,
Не попомни зла!
Здесь в степи глухой
Схорони меня!

Ты лошадушек
Сведи к батюшке!
Передай поклон
Родной матушке!

А жене младой
Ты скажи, друг мой,
Чтоб она меня
Не ждала домой.

А жене скажи
Слово прощальное.
Передай кольцо
Обручальное.

Пусть она по мне
Не печалится.
С тем, кто сердцу мил,
Пусть венчается.

Про меня скажи,
Что в степи замёрз,
А любовь её
Я с собой унёс".

There was only the steppe around,
It was a long way to go.
In that deserted steppe
A coachman was freezing to death.

And, having made his last effort,
Feeling approach of death,
To his companion
He gave the order:

"You, my companion,
Don't think ill of me!
Here, in this deserted steppe,
Bury me!

My horses
Take them to my dad!
Give my respects
To my dear mommy!

To my young wife
Tell it, my friend,
Tell her not to wait
For my return home.

To my dear wife
Tell my farewell words.
My wedding ring
Give it to her.

She shouldn't cry
For me.
Let her marry
Whoever is sweet to her.

Tell her about me
That I'm frozen to death in the steppe,
But her love
I have taken it away with me".
