One summer, at dawn,
I have looked into a neighbouring garden.
There the swarthy Moldavian girl
Picks grapes.
I'm blushing, I'm turning pale,
Suddenly I've wanted to tell her:
"Let's see the summer dawn
On the river bank!"
The bushy green maple,
Its leaves are like cut out!
I'm in love with you and I'm confused.
The green maple, the bushy maple,
Its leaves are like cut out!
But the swarthy Moldavian girl
Has answered to the guy:
"Of Moldavian partisans
We recruit a troop.
This morning, at dawn, partisans
Have left their houses.
The way to the woods waits for you too,
The way to partisans".
The bushy green maple,
Its leaves are like cut out!
Here, under this maple, we part.
The green maple, the bushy maple,
Its leaves are like cut out!
And the swarthy Moldavian girl
Has gone away to the woods along a path.
I was offended
That she didn't suggest to go with her.
About the swarthy Moldavian girl
I thought often at nights…
My swarthy girl
I have met her again in a troop.
The bushy green maple,
Its leaves are like cut out!
"Hello, guy, my sweet, my darling!"
The green maple, the bushy maple,
Its leaves are like cut out!
